Our Mission

Mission Statement

Mid-City CAN’s mission is to create a safe, productive, and healthy community through collaboration, advocacy, and organizing.

Mid-City CAN takes a unique approach to accomplishing its mission, working with residents and partners to drive positive change across many systems and issues. Rather than coming in as an outside force, Mid-City CAN extensively collaborates with the people of City Heights to see what they need the most in their neighborhood. The most pressing issues raised by the people themselves are then addressed through Momentum Teams, which are councils made up of residents from City Heights.

Mid-City CAN goals:

  1. To provide coordination and integration of social, health and community services.
  2. To develop greater community involvement.
  3. To provide a forum for community-based decision making.
  4. To advocate for changes in government policies and systems that will improve the quality of life for all of Mid-City’s residents – especially our children.

mid-city can envisions a community where:

  • Land use is equitable and supports healthy lifestyles.
  • Housing is healthy and affordable.
  • People are safe from harm.
  • Health services are accessible, people-centered, and high quality.
  • Food is accessible, nutritious, and culturally appropriate.
  • Education supports families and career development.
  • Youth and adult residents are leaders.
