Before San Diego's mayoral election, City Heights will have another important vote.

On Dec 10, Mid-City CAN will have elections to add three new resident Coordinating Council members from the City Heights community and two organizational representatives . The Coordinating Council is responsible for guiding Mid-City CAN's big-picture strategy, with a particular focus on policy and fundraising.  Anyone who is a member of Mid-City CAN is eligible to vote at one of the following times: from 8 to 10 a.m. or from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Scripps Wellness Center, City Heights, 4440 Wightman St., Suite 200.

Coordinating Council Member Carolyn Pinces said selecting the leadership board of Mid-City CAN is important because of the work that the organization does.

Mid-City CAN "is very in touch with residents in the community and really does a good job of bringing residents, organizations and businesses together to have one dialog," Pinces said.

Mid-City CAN will announce results of the elections on Dec. 18.

Coordinating Council Member Anita Herrera said she appreciates the fact that the board has so many diverse points of view. For instance, she is primarily a Spanish speaker, but is still able to participate.

"What matters is wanting to help your community," Herrera said through an interpreter.
