Deadline to apply for Coordinating Council extended

Mid-City Community Advocacy Network's board, called the Coordinating Council, has three nonresident seats and two resident seats open for election by Mid-City CAN members. The organization recently extended the application period to Dec. 10. Each seat has a three-year term.

"The Coordinating Council is the governing body for Mid-City CAN," said Carolyn Pinces, former Mid-City CAN Coordinating Council member. "The council meets monthly to discuss issues affecting the organization and community and develops processes and initiatives that will make the organization more effective."

Mid-City CAN is the City Heights hub for the California Endowment's Building Healthy Communities, a 10-year initiative to change the way that health happens in California by focusing on 14 different areas.

"It is a great leadership opportunity," she said. "It is not a huge commitment of time, but you can make a large contribution to the community."
