Adolescent Health

Adolescent Health Momentum Team

mission statement

Adolescent Health Momentum Team implements a proactive, comprehensive approach to promote and reinforce healthy sexual attitudes, behaviors and lifestyles amongst Mid-City teens. The TSH Momentum Team works to increase awareness and knowledge of the social, physical and emotional aspects of adolescent sexual health and well-being. We also work to mobilize communities to provide environments that support healthy lifestyles, and work with community groups and local government agencies to create policies and system change that positively affect teen sexual health.

Adolescent Health Momentum Team believes in The NEW Three R’s: Rights, Respect, Responsibility

RIGHTS

Youth have the right to accurate and complete sexual health information, confidential reproductive and sexual health services, and a secure stake in the future.

RESPECT

Youth deserve respect. Valuing young people means involving them in the design, implementation and evaluation of programs and policies that affect their health and well-being.

RESPONSIBILITY

Society has the responsibility to provide young people with the tools they need to safeguard their sexual health, and young people have the responsibility to protect themselves from too-early childbearing and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

Adolescent Health Momentum Team’s biannual hallmark event is CORE. This event is on high school campuses in City Heights and brings together youth, medical, and social service providers in answering the question “What is the core of teen sexual health?” The answer to that question lies in healthy relationships, communication, self-esteem, and accurate health information. These factors affect the choices we all make regarding our sexual health and the rest of our lives. At Core, students hear music and spoken word, watch dance performances and artistic expressions, learn about where they can go for health services, and engage in discussions about sexual health and the real issues and challenges they face. Core is about youth!
